Ahhhh..

Just got done with a 90 minute massage. OMG did that feel good.  I felt releases of stress several times and feel totally relaxed. I’m now sitting at a park, drinking a smoothie and contemplating a nap. My eyes feel heavy and a little snooze sounds devine. Maybe just for 20 min or so.

Ahhhh…namaste.

From the Mouths of Babes

Isabella surprises me everyday with the stuff she says. I am constantly amazed by the words she knows and how she’s able to put them together. Instead of writing about our evening in standard prose, I’ll tell you about it via Isabella speak.

Arriving at home:

“Welcome home Mommy! Welcome home mommy!”

“Watch ‘Yo Gabba Gabba’! Get cooking mommy.”

During dinner:

“Really yummy, mommy! Tastes good!”

“Bella hold the JELLO, pleeeeease!”

“Sing the ‘Hey Dude’ song mommy!” (which is sung to the the Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’)

“Jungle song – mommy do that!” (“The Lion Sleeps Tonight” song)

“Daddy do beat box.”

Putting peas in her JELLO cup and then saying “no peas in there” as she took them out.

After dinner we went for a walk around the neighborhood and eventually ended up at the park. She climbed on the teeter-totter and this is what happened:

Her talking is kind of quiet so you might need to turn up the volume.

We came home and did some coloring before heading off to bed. She insisted on taking her plastic alligator and cow with her. From the kitchen I could hear this on the monitor:

“Good night orange alligator. Good night blue cow. Good night playground. Good night sandbox. Good night juice. Juice in sandbox dirty.”

“That’s Elmo’s woooooooorld! That’s Elmo’s toys! That’s Elmo’s alligator! That’s Elmo’s hands!”

She’s finally off to sleep now and I’m about to pay bills. Tomorrow I go in for a much needed massage and I can’t WAIT!

Good night everyone!

You Capture: Flowers

It was fun getting back in to the swing of You Capture with this week’s theme. Flowers are blooming everywhere and that’s one of my favorite parts of summer – all the bright colors and gorgeous blooms!

Irises

flowers irises

I never knew how much I loved irises until we bought this house 5 years ago. The previous owners had them planted in the back and every year when they bloom it’s like a gift from above.

Peonies

flower peony3

Isabella and I have been closely watching the peonies. Everyday we’d go outside and check on their progress. They slowly grew and then produced small buds. Then those buds got bigger until one day – pop! – out came a flower! Isabella thought the whole process was fascinating. I was just happy to have that touch of pink in the yard!

Roses

flowers roses2

I cannot tell a lie. I took this picture as I was leaving the salon. I got a few funny looks. They had these planted along the side of the building and I thought they looked so pretty. Roses are classics!

Dandelions

Isabella picked these for me. She came running over and handed me this little bouquet of fuzzies and was so proud. I loved them too. I remember picking them as a kid and blowing on the fuzz to watch it fly away. She does the same thing but she preserved this batch, well most of it, for her mama. Such a sweet girl. They are perfect because they’re from her.

Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Mommy

At least, that’s how I feel right now.

Isabella fell again. On my watch. *sigh*

She didn’t fall down the stairs this time though. Instead she tipped her chair and fell backwards onto the laminate floor in the kitchen.

I’ll back up. See, as you know, we’re trying to sell our house and so have to keep it in show ready condition all the time. One thing the realtors have us do is move Isabella’s high chair to the garage, so that we can push the table in the kitchen back a little and make it look bigger. Instead of going through that hassle all the time I decided to buy her a travel booster seat. It straps to a regular chair and we can buckle her in it at home. Then when we leave for vacations or restaurants or simply want it gone, we fold it up and go! It arrived Friday night and she’s been using it like a champ all weekend.

One cautionary note though is that she tries to push herself back from the table using her legs against the tabletop. I made sure to tell CJ over and over that we have to watch for this and keep the chair secure.

I should have heeded my own advice.

I got dinner all ready tonight and set our places. CJ was taking a quick shower so it was just me and Munchkins. I strapped her in and pushed her up to the table. She told me her potatoes were too hot so I picked up her plate to blow on them. In doing that, I took my concentration off her and didn’t notice her pushing back with her legs against the table. All of a sudden I saw her chair start to tip back. It wobbled there on 2 legs for a minute and then started to go back. Unlike when she fell down the stairs, none of this was slow motion. In fact, it all seemed to happen very fast.

I lunged forward trying to grab the chair and keep it from falling. But I was only able to grab the side of it which caused the chair to twist and it landed on it’s right side. So of course Isabella hit the right side of her head and body on the ground. It probably would have been better for me not to have grabbed it but my instincts kicked in. She stayed strapped in the seat but of course was crying fiercely. Poor thing!

She seems to be just fine. No bruises or bumps. Just scared. Her and me both.

Dammit, I hate when she gets hurt on my watch. I feel like I’m the worst person in the world and a terrible parent. A good mom would have kept the chair secure. I know these things happen.  I know kids are going to fall. But I don’t want it to be my kid!

We’ve been lucky so far to have no serious injuries. When will our luck run out? I shiver at the thought.

At any rate, we’ve since moved her chair to the side by the wall so that it can’t tip back. Lesson learned.

So as not to make this a totally downer post, here are some pics of us at the zoo on Sunday!

Now I’m off to see if the $300 pearl necklace that I wore on my wedding day can be fixed. Isabella grabbed at it and broke the chain. I guess pay backs really are a bitch.

A Walk in the Park

I didn’t have much time in my schedule today to get out for lunch. However, I had to get out of the office. The sun was shining and I had a 2 hour call looming ahead of me. The only way to get through it was with a Diet Coke and some vitamin D. So I ran out for a quick sandwich (roast beef and cheddar on an asiago bagel with veggie cream cheese. YUMMERS!) and decided to eat it in the park. I ate in my car because it was a bit windy and I didn’t want my napkins and stuff blowing everywhere.

This was the view from my car.

IMG_20110603_112338

There was a group of ladies there wearing matching blue shirts that said VOLUNTEER on them. They were walking around picking up the trash. I wanted to tell them thank you but I didn’t. I thought it though.

IMG_20110603_112325

As soon as I finished my sandwich, I headed out for a quick walk. It’s a small park so the walk took me only about 15 min (with many stops to take pictures).

IMG_20110603_112902

There’s something very haunting to me about empty playground equipment. I actually did a whole series in college on it. One of my favorites.

IMG_20110603_113140

I came upon a lot of fallen limbs. We’ve had many days of rain and storms and the poor trees can’t take it anymore!

IMG_20110603_113259

The walk was nice and peaceful. The only people I ran in to were the volunteer litter ladies (hey they should get shirts that say THAT!). The sun was bright and it was warm but I enjoyed the fresh air.

IMG_20110603_113521

There’s a nice little creek that runs through this park. It was much more full than I’ve ever seen it, thanks in part to all those storms.

IMG_20110603_114312

There was also a lovely little bridge. It looked like it had recently been rebuilt because it was all bright and pristine. Almost too clean!

IMG_20110603_113620

Overall the park was great, though there were some signs of wear and tear.

IMG_20110603_113540

I was hot and sweaty by the end of my walk so the A/C felt amazing! I cranked it up baby! Then it was back to the office for meeting after meeting. I was ready to chill when I got home but Isabella wanted to go to the park so we loaded up the stroller and headed out!

She was looking sharp in her shades!

IMG_20110603_185250

She had a lot of fun on the teeter totter. When we got home, she asked me for some juice so that she could “stay hydrated.” That’s my Little Genius!

Now I’m off to paint my toenails with the new nail polish I bought today (OPI’s “It’s Totally Fort Worth It”) while watching Sex and the City 2. I know, I know. I’ve heard bad things too but hey, they’re my girls so I have to watch it. So what if I’m a couple years behind….I also plan to polish off a banana split made with Bunny Tracks ice cream. Huzzah!

Have a great weekend!
